This position will be located in only one of the following district offices, depending on the location of the selected candidate: Norwalk, Glendale, West Covina, Culver City, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Clarita, Ventura, Rancho Cucamonga or San Diego.


The position may be located in a high-rise building, depending on the location selected. Under the general direction of the District Principal Auditor, the Business Taxes Specialist II (BTS II) will work as a highly skilled technical specialist generally reviewing the most difficult and complex audit reports prepared by Business Taxes Specialist II field auditors located within the offices shown above. The assigned work would include the audits of industry leaders in high tech, bio-tech, healthcare, entertainment, manufacturing, US Government supply contractors and other industries with complex and technical business attributes. The BTS II reviewer will be responsible for determining the accuracy of the audit staff in interpreting the different laws administered by the Board of Equalization (BOE), the adequacy of audit information, conformance to generally accepted auditing procedures, knowledge of specialized auditing techniques administered by the BOE, and conformance to standards regarding the presentation, arrangement, and indexing of audit work papers. The BTS II will act as a high level tax program advisor and may be called upon to conduct specialized training, perform lead auditor duties, and participate in other job-related functions as deemed necessary. It is anticipated that a small percentage of travel time (up to 10%) may be required. At management’s discretion this position may rotate into a BTS II field audit position. All applications will be carefully reviewed and only the most qualified candidates will be selected for an interview. Experience as an audit reviewer is preferred but not required. Meeting the training requirements for this position may require overnight travel for up to five consecutive nights. The position requires the incumbent to be fingerprinted.
