안녕하세요. 저의 이름은 Louis Kim 입니다. 현재 Brigham Young University (Provo, UT) 재학중입다. 대학교에서 Public Health (Epidemiology)를 공부하고 있습니다. 한국과 미국에 자라나면서 많은 한인 청소년들이 정신적으로 고통을 받고, 마약 중독에 빠지고, 그리고 자기 삶을 포기 하는 것을 보고 한인 청소년 정신건강에 대해서 관심을 같개 되었습니다. 현재 미국 보건청의 말씀을 따르면 한인 청소년들이 다른 인종보다도 정신질환을 격고 있으며 자살을 택하고 있답니다. 하지만 청소년들은 말하지도 못하고 혼자서 격고 있습니다. 정신 질환이 있을 경우에는 학교나 사회적으로 많은 영향을 받습니다. 건강이 최고 입니다. 저는 현재 미국 보건학 협회와 학교를 통해서 한인 청소년 정신 건강을 연구하고 있습니다. 청소년들이 격고 있는 문제와 얼마나 주변의 community resources들을 사용해서 건강을 유지 하는 지에 대해서 알고 싶습니다. 정신적 문제는 자기 잘못이 아닙니다. 지금 현재 연구를 준비하고 있습니다. 정식으로는 6월달이나 7월 초 부터 시작 합니다. 만약에 이 연구에 대해서 궁금한점이 있으 시거나 참여 하고 싶으시면 이메일을 보내 주세요. My name is Louis Kim, a student at Brigham Young University, studying Public Health with an emphasis on Epidemiology. Currently, I am conducting a research on Korean- American adolescent mental health literacy and suicide prevention. According to the Center for Disease and Prevention, Korean- American adolescents have the highest suicide rate comparison to other ethnicities in the United States. Also, many of them do suffer from mental disorders, yet go unnoticed. The purpose of the study is to understand how adolescents perceive mental disorders and knowledge on mental health services within their communities. This research is still being developed and recruiting participants.
