PICO RIVERA >> A pedestrian died after being hit by two vehicles Monday night. Deputies said the first driver fled the scene.
Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said the dead man, described only as a Latino, hasn’t been identified. His next of kin hasn’t been notified.
The autopsy is pending, Winter said.
Deputies got a call of “a man down” and possible assault on Beverly Boulevard, east of Abbeywood Avenue at 10:53 p.m., according to Sgt. Pablo Partida of the sheriff’s Pico Rivera station.
The man was found lying in the No. 1 lane of westbound Beverly Boulevard. A driver at the scene told deputies he was traveling westbound when he hit the man.
“They conducted a field sobriety test. He (the driver) was not under the influence,” Partida said.
Partida said traffic investigators determined an unknown vehicle struck the man while eastbound on Beverly Boulevard and didn’t stop. He said there was debris on the eastbound lane.
The pedestrian was then hit by the second vehicle. That motorist stopped.
Los Angeles County firefighters pronounced the man dead at 11:08 p.m.
There was no description available for the hit-and-run driver or the first vehicle.
